Water lines are usually challenging to locate. However, our construction crews typically operate at depths of 1 to 1.5 meters, which generally avoids damaging potable water lines that are located at an approximate depth of 3 meters. If water lines are within our standard working depths, we request assistance from the municipality/utility owners to locate them. Our crews are equipped with the necessary tools and materials to conduct repairs, as they use the same equipment for working with fibre conduits.
The construction crews will arrange for the surveying of all property lines that require utility locates to be completed. Both during and after construction, locates for our network are initiated via sask1stcall.
No. The biggest temporary hole we dig (often with a hydrovac) is to daylight existing infrastructure. We also install grade level infrastructure, such as vaults and splice points, that are approximately 20” x 35”. These are at grade level.
We are part of sask1stcall and adhere to all regulations. We treat line locating seriously and have professionals executing all operations.
We use backhoes and vibratory plows; these look like a big sowing machine and are very noninvasive to ground disruption. It will cut a slit in the ground as it inserts the small pipe that houses the fibre-optic cable. This machine is no bigger than a riding lawnmower. We also use directional drills to go underground when we encounter infrastructure that you can’t plow over.
Once you sign up, we will meet with you to plan the route to your house. Our crews are amazing at finding the best path and making sure you like it. The plan and installation usually happen simultaneously.
Line locates happen all over the community land. We then circle the community owned land with our underground fibre-optic infrastructure. Then we bring the fibre directly to every home that wants it. This stage is when the cost to install is the lowest as our crews are already in the community connecting your neighbours.
Yes, typically any grass disruption is restored to look as good as new by the next lawn cut. If we ever let you down, we promise to make it right.
