Fibre Network Construction Process & Timelines

Skip ahead to view the timelines of our current community builds.

Building a fibre network in your community involves several steps, from early planning to the final connection at your home. While we provide estimated timelines, some phases can shift due to factors outside our control, like weather, ground conditions, or permit approvals. Most work is completed within the municipal right-of-way and follows all required permits.

We always aim to minimize disruption and complete work as smoothly and respectfully as possible.

What is happening in your community?

FlexNetworks is building the infrastructure that brings fibre across Saskatchewan and right in your community to individual homes. Depending on the area, the fibre line may be installed underground or aerial (overhead).

Installation method is determined during the design phase of the build. In most areas, fibre is installed underground within the municipal right-of-way. In some locations, it is installed overhead using utility poles, based on the approved network design for that area.

Constructing this network involves several coordinated steps, from planning and approvals to bringing service directly to your home.

Our commitment to you

We know construction can raise questions. Our commitment is to keep you informed at every stage of the build.

We aim to share clear timelines across five key phases, from when you’ll first see crews in your community to when service is activated at your home, so you know what to expect and when.

Construction Stages

Our designers and engineers review maps, drawings, and site conditions to plan the best route to serve homes in your community. Plans are then submitted for municipal approvals and permits.

Survey teams mark property lines and planned build locations. In underground areas, this includes the intended path for conduit and the placement of ground-level access points in the right-of-way. In aerial areas, this may include pole routes and planned connection points.

Construction crews build the main infrastructure needed to distribute fibre throughout your community. Splicing teams then complete connections so the network is ready to support service.

When your area is ready for individual connections, our service drop crews will contact you for a pre-install appointment, then prepare the fibre line from the street to your home.

  • In underground areas, this is typically a buried drop installed from the right-of-way to the home.

  • In aerial areas, this is typically an overhead drop installed from the nearest utility pole to the home.

Once the service drop is ready, we will contact you to schedule an in-home installation appointment to complete the connection into your home and activate service. After activation, your home is fully connected to fibre-optic internet.

Construction may cause temporary disruption, and we appreciate your patience as work is completed. As crews work in your area, you may see:

Affected areas are restored once construction is complete. Timelines may vary due to weather and seasonal conditions.
